Lectures

SANTA IS REAL:
This discussion is about the sometimes crazy but real world of Santa Claus. Using lots of humor, skillfully colored with real world examples of some of their favorite Santas, they discuss many of the things everyone wishes they had known before entering Santa’s world. If you are an experienced Santa reading this, then you may already know exactly what this means but if you are a “Newbie” then hold on.

BUILDING YOUR SANTA CLAUS:
This discussion is about developing the contours and nuances of your Santa Claus character. Having a clear understanding your “backstory” is one of the most important things you can do when portraying the legendary character, Santa Claus. Many believe Santa’s character is written in stone. (Is it?) Learn about the number one mistake that new and established Santas most commonly make, discuss the 55 most asked questions from children, and learn about modulation and how to use it to better control “Your North Pole”.

TYPES OF JOBS FOR SANTA CLAUS:
Things have changed Santa! The days of only working for a photo company in a mall are over. Now Santas have choices and the only real limitation is your imagination. This is a great presentation that discusses our history as well as where we are headed. If you want to know your employment options, then this is the presentation you should hear. You can be an independent! You can even work without leaving your home!

BEING A PHOTO-FRIENDLY SANTA CLAUS:
Ok, confession time, neither Leon or Steve wakes up looking like he does when in public. It takes real knowledge (almost magical knowledge) to bring their best look forward and that’s what this presentation is about. They show you how to go from looking horrid to looking great (well, at least better). You will learn about the tools they use, the supplies they purchase, and the techniques they employ for “Getting Pretty.” Children will no longer be afraid of you. Nightmare photos taken by their wives.

GENERATIONAL MARKETING FOR SANTA CLAUS:
Do you know the terms, Baby Boomers, Generation X or Millennials? If you don’t, you should. Each group represents different age groups and has unique characteristics associated with what they are receptive to in hiring a Santa Claus. The goal of this class is to inform professional Santas how to appeal to, deal with, and maintain good relationships with each of these three groups that make up most of the people who hire us.

TOOLS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY SANTA CLAUS:
Managing your Santa Claus portrayal requires many tools to conduct business in our modern age. This, the “Golden Era” of Santa, offers more help than ever before for today’s Santa. The internet has put information at our fingertips and information is power. Steve and Leon discuss the programs and devices they use to efficiently run their Santa Claus businesses. Doing so puts their client’s minds at ease and will do the same for your clients. Communication is crucial and has never been easier.

GOT PROPS:
These are the props you will never leave home without. Just be warned in advance to always expect the unexpected! With this assortment of props, you will be prepared for everything you may encounter. Many of these props are carried directly on you. The rest should be in your Gig Bag. You will learn how to always be equipped, be it chair sitting with photos or doing Santa story time for 200 children of more. Expect the unexpected and exceed your client’s expectations!

PROPPING UP THE NORTH POLE:
Leon and Steve are “Performance-based Santas” and they use many different props due to constantly creating new ones for the new season. Each prop has a story related to the North Pole and Christmas. Understanding how they transformed these props into stories told to the children will help you on your way to doing the same thing. They also will let you know the most important prop they use and why it is so important.

ULTIMATE HOME VISIT GUIDE FOR SANTA CLAUS:
For many Santas, Home Visits represent over 90% of their work. Even for a Mall Santa, on days off at the mall, a home visit is an important event. This presentation discusses the different types of home visits and how to be prepared for just about anything. It is suggested that with this presentation you always include the one called “Got Props?”

TECHNOLOGY FOR CHRISTMAS PERFORMERS:
There is power in technology and Santa Claus needs to know about it. Learn about the terminology as well as how to use devices that will improve your Santa Claus performance. Find out the latest technology for using music and blue tooth to enhance your Santa’s performance and don’t forget about tablets and smart phones. Plus, learn what your first technology purchase should be and how this item is truly indispensable.

SMART SANTA:
Movie magic, we have all seen it. Wouldn’t it be great if your Santa knew everything about all the children? Look at the expression on the child’s face in the photo. This presentation explores the electronic equipment, techniques and discussion of how this method will work in any environment, from the Mall to a private home visit. You will learn about all the equipment and techniques to pull off this amazing effect, plus how to choose your assistant

SNEAK-A-PEEK OF SANTA:
Imagine a child waking up to a noise and upon further investigation, they find Santa Claus in their house. Then from the safety of a secret hiding place, standing with their family, they watch. Of course, Santa doesn’t know that they are watching (not really). This event is as close to being the real Santa Claus as you can get. Learn the props and techniques needed to pull off the ultimate home visit. It’s a truly magical, lifetime memory for the entire family.

BECOMING A HEALTHY SANTA CLAUS:
The obesity epidemic in the world today is devastating. Many in the Santa world are dealing with being overweight and type 2 diabetes. Both Leon and Steve have dealt with excess weight. Bottom line is diets don’t work. Learn about the journey and techniques that have changed lives and helped Steve lose 80lbs. We lose so many great Santas each year. Wouldn’t it be nice if they were here longer for the children and their family? This information will be available to anyone wanting a copy of the class notes.

SANTA CLAUS PROFICIENCY AND HOW IT RELATES TO PAY STRUCTURE:
One of the most asked questions in any Santa class is, “What should I charge for my Santa?” Here is a new way to think about pay structure and how it relates to the Santa Claus portrayer. More than a few Santas contributed to this discussion and there is something here for everyone. This discussion covers some sensitive, seldom discussed issues in the world of Santa. The answers might surprise you.
